I think what we need is a coordinated public relations effort to let the general public know about the real value of polygraph, and to routinely present polygraph in a positive light. We have to start setting the agenda, and stop leaving it to the anti folks. To that end, I’m volunteering my services to coordinate that effort.

If anyone has a verified test (and I’m sure all of us do) in which an innocent person was exonerated by a polygraph exam, or a guilty person was exposed, or a marriage was saved, etc., please contact me directly. At my own expense, I will have press releases written and distributed to the wire services, TV and radio, and other media, which will include your name and location, so that you can continue to benefit and spread the good word. In this way, millions of people hear and read about the positive aspects of polygraph, and the benefits that accrue to our society.

I’m prepared to do this on a regular and ongoing basis.

Just a few weeks ago, the local news did a segment on two examiners who run a PI and polygraph business. The clip was very positive, and one of the examiners pointed out how polygraph is often used to clear the innocent. If we could see those little blurbs throughout the country, we'd be way ahead of the game.

Seems I have been preaching exactly what you are stating for about the past 2 years. Our tagline is

Positively influencing the public perception of polygraph.

I realized a few years ago this is the only way to fight the battle.

That is why I started the 'True Polygraph Stories'. I have to say though, I've done everything but offered money for stories and most examiners are unresponsive. I haven't given up, but I'll tell you its like pulling teeth.

Granted you are taking an approach with a different medium and if that gets people on board...I'm all for it! I'll even publish your request in the newsletter for you if you want to be that public about it.

You are very gracious to make your offer.

The problem is, that people who get caught in a polygraph, don't want to talk about it. The people who were cleared by a polygraph, don't want to talk about the fact that they were accused of child molest or some other horrible crime.

Our stories, with annonymous subjects, will not help the cause or further the use of polygraph. What we need is REAL people, who have had a positive polygraph experience. People, who in their own words, are willing to come clean and say....the polygraph worked. I have many cases where people were released from custody or not charged based on the polygraph results. I don't know of one that would be willing to talk about it to the press.

As a LE exclusive examiner, I would agree with Ted about the lack of people willing to agree to discuss their PE experience. I could give you dozens of sex offenders who tested, failed, and confessed to the allegations, but obviously I cannot. I also like to read positive accounts about polygraph, but as far as reading about them locally, I do not want to see any local coverage about people that I have tested who then confessed. My reason is that I do not want to advertise to the local community of child molestors and rapists that I have a pretty good success rate of getting confessions. I would'nt want to scare them off! :-)

I do think that stories of people exonerated and such would be better PR than a heavy load of confirmed criminal tests. Anyway, best of luck and if I come across something that I can give to you, I will.
